Kiel Temperature Probes
Total temperature measurement that holds across flow angles, with thermocouple or resistance sensing.
Total Temperature in Flow That Does Not Arrive Head-On
A Kiel temperature probe uses a shrouded head, in the same way a Kiel pressure probe does, so the total temperature reading stays valid when the flow does not arrive head-on. Heads are available in tip diameters from 1.6 mm for installations with limited space.
Sensing options include thermocouples and resistance sensors. K-Tec Systems builds custom thermocouples and RTDs in Ferndale, Michigan, so sensor type, calibration requirements and cabling can be reviewed with one U.S. team that also handles quoting and order coordination.

More Than a Probe Supplier
K-Tec Systems manufactures the sensing and cabling around the probe in Ferndale, Michigan, so one U.S. team can support the whole measurement chain, from thermocouples and RTDs to wire harnesses.
Manufactured and supported in the U.S.
K-Tec Systems builds custom thermocouples, RTDs, wire harnesses and test stands at our Ferndale, Michigan, facility. The probe, the temperature sensing and the cabling can be specified together, with one U.S. team behind the order.
Flow and temperature at the same point
K-Tec thermocouples and RTDs can be integrated into compatible probe designs, so total pressure and temperature are measured at the same location.

Kiel Temperature Probes: Frequently Asked Questions
What is total temperature?
Total temperature is the temperature the flow would reach if it were brought to rest. In moving flow, a bare sensor reads below it, which is why a shrouded head is used to measure it.
Why use a Kiel head for temperature?
The shroud keeps the reading valid when the flow arrives at an angle to the probe axis, up to ±50°, where an open sensor would read incorrectly.
Which sensors are available?
Thermocouples and resistance sensors. K-Tec Systems can review the sensor type, accuracy requirement, calibration and cabling for your application.
What temperature, size and speed ranges are available?
Operation to 800°C, tip diameters from 1.6 mm, lengths to 100 mm in one part, and speeds from 3 to more than 343 m/s. Longer lengths are possible with multi-part designs.
Can temperature and pressure be measured at the same point?
Kiel pressure probes and Kiel temperature probes use the same shrouded-head approach, and both can be supplied individually or in custom arrays. Our team can review a combined layout for your test.
